NEWS: NIGERIAN FIRMS TARGET 80% OIL SECTOR JOBS IN 5YRS

Going by the rate of progress, indigenous oil servicing companies operating in the Nigerian oil and gas sector can be in a position to handle about 80 per cent of jobs in the industry within the next five years, the Chairman of A.G Butler Nig Ltd, Charles Emeka Amadi has said.

Amadi who made the assertion while speaking exclusively to LEADERSHIP, said the progress being made by indigenous firms in the sector owes to the successful implementation of the Nigerian oil and gas content Act 2010.

According to him, following the support given indigenous oil servicing companies by the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board (NCDMB) in line with the content Act, jobs currently handled by local firms which are below 50 per cent now, can progress to about 80 per cent in the next five years.

While commending the Board over the manner in which dispute are resolved in the industry, Amadi said, the content Board carry out its monitoring activity with a view to ensuring that no indigenous firm is unduly victimized in the cause of executing their jobs.

He said: “The Nigerian local content Board is doing a good job, we owe our growth to them, the present executive secretary is doing a good job. Not only are they making sure that quality jobs are given to qualified Nigerian companies, they are also monitoring to make sure that the companies are not unduly victimized in the course of executing these jobs.

“If you have a situation where your job is wrongfully terminated and you complain to the Board they usually invite the company and where the company has erred, they ask them to do the right thing. The Board use the instrument of reconciliation very well.”
